RISHI BUDHRANI & SHARUL CHANNA - Singapore's Favourite Comedy Couple!
(as seen on NETFLIX and Comedy Central)
RISHI BUDHRANI
After being fired from his father’s tailoring business, Rishi used all that leftover material to make history as a Singaporean comedian, breaking barriers locally and globally. Besides being the creator of the online news satire series The Rishi Report, he became the first Singaporean comedian to perform at The Gotham Comedy Club in New York City.
Rishi has performed successful shows in India, China, Sri Lanka, Dubai, and also at the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals. With his growing presence in the local entertainment scene in Singapore, Rishi has been part of several brand campaigns, where he contributed acting, modelling, moderating and comedy acts. Several campaigns reflected his personal advocacy of health, animal welfare and elevating youth voices in Singapore.
SHARUL CHANNA
Sharul Channa is formally trained in theatre from Lasalle, College of the Arts, and has been a full-time stand-up comedian for the last 11 years. Channa has performed to packed houses all over Asia and Australia, and over the past few years she has used comedy to shed light on important, and sometimes neglected, social issues in Singapore. In co-created works with Esplanade: she deconstructed misogyny at Indian weddings with Sharul Weds Sharul, which was also performed at The Darwin Festival in Australia; and she cycled through multiple characters in Disco Sheela and Other Indian Superwomen - a show that "left listeners breathless with laughter, and in the next moment, unable to breathe because the truth hurts” (The Straits Times, LIFE!)
She earned a Best Actress nomination at The Straits Times LIFE! Theatre Awards, when she highlighted the plight of women living below the poverty line in Singapore, in her landmark solo 2019 piece, Crazy Poor Sita. In collaboration with AWARE, Channa developed and performed Am I Old? on Zoom during Singapore’s Covid-19 lockdown. The show received rave reviews in The Straits Times and was translated and performed in both Tamil and Hindi.
